Portugal made it to the Nations League final after a 3-1 win over Switzerland in Porto.
A hat-trick from Cristiano Ronaldo was enough to send them into Sunday’s showpiece occasion.
Both Cristiano Ronaldo and wonderkid Joao Felix started for Portugal in what looked one of the most exciting attacking line-ups the Iberian nation had put out in years.
But the opening exchanges in Porto were cagey, at best. Neither side looked fluent on the ball and the best chance came for the visitors when Haris Seferovic headed into the arms of Rui Patricio from close range.
But as all good players do, Ronaldo stepped up when his country needed him and opened the scoring on 27 minutes. A brilliant free kick from 35 yards wrong-footed Yann Sommer and give the Selecao a first half lead.
After the break though, the game turned on a VAR decision.
A natural coming together inside the Portugal penalty area, unbelievably, saw the referee point to the spot.
Up stepped Ricardo Rodriguez, who netted the equaliser from 12 yards in what was one of the more comical scenes of the season.
The game then descended into a ‘who won’t concede next’ encounter, with neither team truly willing to throw caution to the wind and go for the jugular.
But, with three minutes remaining, it was You Know Who who decided the contest.
A cross from the right found Ronaldo, with the Juventus man firing in first time to take Portugal into the Nations League final.
But he wasn’t done there.
Just a minute later, the Ballon d’Or winner cut inside on his right foot, and fired in for his hat-trick from 18 yards.
Watch all his three goals below.
