Prof Muchiri who has risen from a mere coordinator, having been a Principal then promoted to a VC has had power go into his head.
In 2007/2010, Prof Muchiri was a struggling, little-known Moi University lecturer.
Fast forward to a few years after taking the helm of Karatina University, the man has looted Ksh200 million in fraudulent procurement practices that has been a running thread since he took over.
The Doctorate of Philosophy trained don is accused of looting the institution in collusion with his deputies.
The building projects inside the university has been his source of enormous income through kickbacks.
According to someone close to the happenings, the Leicester University trained professor has stolen money from the university and has built his own school complex in Sagana Town.
Prof Muchiri is also said to have unprocedurally sponsored his wife through the University coffers for graduate studies abroad while on full payroll.
The employment at the university is skewed for Kikuyus and Merus who have godfathers at the institution.
‘Many people here have been employed without requisite academic papers, the management even tried to promote a senior Accountant to Finance officer without experience and qualifications. An irregularity that was only stopped by the union’, said our source.
