Security Consultant Mwenda Mbijiwe was this morning reported missing.
According to Mbijiwe’s sister, Tamara, the former Airforce officer vanished on Saturday, June 12.
He was travelling to Meru from Nairobi at around 8 pm when he disappeared in unclear circumstances.
Speaking to Kenyan journalists, Tamara confirmed on Thursday that the family had filed a missing person’s report at Central Police Station after attempts to reach him on phone proved futile.
According to Ms. Mbijiwe, her brother Mwenda was driving a hired vehicle which they are yet to ascertain the company it was acquired from.
She added Mwenda who was the CEO of Eye On Security (K) Ltd had not expressed any fears over his life.
It is reported that on that fateful day, Mwenda Mbijiwe had trained a Nairobi-based church on basic security skills, and was to travel to our Meru rural home that evening.
According to a close friend who was with him that day, he called his mum, who lives in Meru, on that same Saturday evening to inform her that he was on his way home.
He had asked her to prepare him his favourite food, “Mukimo” and promised to arrive albeit late in the night.
As of his social media footprints, Mwenda made a post on his Facebook on June 11 commentating on the current political affairs in the country.
The specific post was about the latest standoff between the Executive and the Judiciary.
“What you are witnessing in Kenya now is the rise of judicial activism and the self-assertion of radical judges. These will in not-so-far future transform into legislators of law,” he wrote on the post.
Prior to venturing into private business, Mbijiwe served as a military officer.
Mbijiwe attempted to run for the Meru gubernatorial seat on an ODM ticket in the 2017-General Election but backed out to support the then-governor Peter Munya.
In June 2019, Mbijiwe was arraigned in court over alleged fraud.
He was accused of fraudulently acquiring Sh150,000 from a man after convincing him that he was in a position to secure his sister a job at the United Nations (UN).
