Tension is simmering in Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga’s cabinet over claims that his close confidant in the powerful Finance docket has been involved in extra marital affairs with the spouses of senior government officials.
The official – Dennis Nyonje, who is the Chief Finance Officer (CFO) in Rasanga’s administration is said to influence the women through the vast wealth he has accumulated since his days as the Director of Finance in Siaya.
Insiders in the devolved unit told Nairobian that Nyonje who is facing a litany of child-upkeep cases in Western Kenya and Nairobi has been painting the regions red through his advanced sexual escapades targeting spouses of senior officials and school girls.
“His appetite for illicit sex seems to be insatiable because we understand he has several women some of whom he has rented for houses in middle-level estates in Kisumu including Lolwe and Migosi,” said a government official in Siaya who declined to be named for fear of being seen to expose the filth in the Rasanga administration.
Nyonje who is said to be Rasanga’s blue-eyed boy rose with a flight speed to his current position despite being inexperienced since both hail from Alego Sub County in Siaya County.
“He is a green horn in the docket he holds and has been the face of corruption cases in the devolved unit. In fact staff are demanding swift action taken against him before it is too late,” added another female staff.
She said that so vicious in terms of wealth accumulation is Nyonje that he even influenced the employment of his wife in the crucial store department where she has also minted millions.
But Nyonje is not new to controversies, sometimes last year he was forced to part with close to Ksh 700,000 to silence an assault case meted by one of his many wives on his sister in law – then a student at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology (JOOUST) in Bondo, Siaya County.
The CFO had been accused by the wife of having an affair with her own sister whom she lived with during school holidays.
The wife on realizing that her husband was involved in an affair with her sister, sent her away from her house before later following her to their rural home in Alego Ndere where she attacked her.
“She boiled water at their rural home in Ndere and burnt the sister in full glare of their parents and other relatives. To avoid the embarrassment and possible dismissal from job, Nyonje and the wife then resorted to spending a fortune to ensure the matter did not see the light of day in terms of investigations.
The innocent girl would then be treated in Siaya before being moved to an Eldoret hospital for specialised attention.
“To date we don’t even know whether the girl ever graduated, this remains a story for another day,” a family member told Nairobian.
“It is quite absurd that a matter of this grave nature was solved locally by elders after the police were compromised,” added the source.
Nyonje who is staring at a possible raid by Assets and Recovery Agency over his huge wealth is said to be currently involved in desperate search for the contacts of the agency’s boss as well as top Ethics and Anti-Corruption officials (EACC) to be able to save his prosperity should they strike.
The official has acquired a fleet of vehicles, property in various cities and is said to be mulling going for a political seat.
During his swearing in as the Siaya CFO in February, Governor Rasanga urged him alongside other colleagues to be in continuous consultation with other members of the Executive to ensure cohesion in service delivery.
This, he has however, breached due to his unquenchable craving for the colleagues’ wives that has now divided senior county government officials who want Rasanga to crack whip.
Rasanga had encouraged the department of Finance to consider Revenue collection their number one task as this determines County resources, but this is said to be dwindling ever since Nyonje took over office, thanks to his thirst to make quick wealth.
Governor Rasanga had also instructed the Department of Governance and Administration to bring on board their Administrators from the ward level to be revenue agents and supervisors at the grassroots.
