Ruto lashes out at politicians seeking to extend Uhuru’s term

Deputy President Dr. William Ruto has lashed out at politicians who are calling amendment of the to extend President Uhuru Kenyatta’s term in office.

Ruto said that Uhuru respects the constitution and is also a firm believer in the principles of democracy to entertain such misinformation that is causing confusion.

“I do not think President Kenyatta has told anyone that he wants his term extended. So, where are these people getting all this information?” Ruto posed,

The DP spoke at his Karen home where he held meeting with leaders from the Luo and Luhya communities.
Ruto said the talks around changing the law should be inclusive adding that proponents of BBI should not force or threaten Kenyans to support their proposals.

“As we discuss the Constitution, let us treat all Kenyans equally. Let us not have cards under the table.” he said.

He also asked Kenyans to dismiss those using blackmail and intimidation as Kenya can not be held hostage by champions of retrogressive politics.

The meeting was attended by several politicians allied to the Tangatanga outfit including Mp Rigathi Gachagua (Mathira), Nixon Korir (Lang’ata), former ANC Secretary-General Eliud Owala, former Senators Boni Khalwale (Kakamega) and Johnstone Muthama (Machakos).

Hon. Gachagua criticised the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) for not giving the ordinary citizens a priority.

“We are not mad people to oppose the BBI proposals if it is about the unity and the empowerment of the people,” he said.

Muthama also dismissed proposals to create five positions for five tribal king pins arguing the move will disenfranchise small communities.

It is during the meeting that the former ANC official Eliud Owalo declared his move into Ruto’s camp ahead of the 2022 elections.
