Following our exposé on the fire incident at Ngara. We can now reveal what allegedly caused the fire.
We have received the following information:
Behind New Ngara Estate and next to Nyayo Market, an illegal garage and storage area has been set up and was being used to store vehicle spare parts, oils and assorted flammable items.
On Wednesday morning the flammable items caught fire which spread rapidly because of the oils and paints on vehicle body parts.
The fire caught the trees and therefore spread to the houses which are close by.
The flames were so huge that they overpowered the 4 storeyed buildings.
Due to the huge fire and intense heat the windows to all these houses were shattered. And as a result one of the houses was gutted down by the fire.
The 2nd floor sitting room was burnt down and nothing could be retrieved from the house.
These garages are built illegally on the Nairobi River Riparian Reserve and are therefore illegal.
The residents of the estate have been endangered and were lucky that not a single person was injured.
