When former US President Barrack Obama came to the country in 2018 to launch the Sauti Kuu Foundation, a team was selected to coordinate his communication during the entire visit.

On arrival, he was met by his sister Auma Obama, Foreign Affairs CS Monica Juma, former US Ambassador Bob Godec, Gina Din Kariuki, Lorna Irungu-Macharia and KAA Security Services General Manager Brigadier General (Rtd) George Kabugi.

Gina Din, who sold her company to Edelman Kenya in 2019, was charged with handling PR for the Obama tour in the country when he launched Auma Obama‘s Sauti Kuu (Strong Voices) Foundation.

Gina Din is a communication and public relations guru who has worked with high ranking individuals and companies across the world.

“When you hear the name Gina Din, you immediately associate her with top-quality communication and a trendsetter in Kenya’s and Africa’s public relations arenas. We value greatly the relationship between the Gina Din Group and the Kenya Red Cross Society, which has lasted years, collaborating in emergency responses and program initiatives,” Red Cross Secretary General Abbas Gullet said of her.

Estimated to have a net worth of Ksh500 million by Forbes in 2013, the PR expert has had experience with some of the largest banks in the region and a major telco company.

She told Forbes in 2013 that teachers mocked in primary school, and also at the London School of Journalism.

“I wasn’t very clever. I had negative reports, and I was at times told I was wasting my time in school,” she stated.

As a result, she suffered self-esteem issues, but through PR, she discovered what she was good at, which affirmed her confidence.

In 2013, she entered into an affiliation partnership with Weber Shandwick, one of the world’s leading public relations firms, to anchor expansion into the African market.
