Panic At Barclays Bank After Staff In Nairobi and Mombasa Test Positive For COVID-19

Absa Kenya Group Kenya (Formerly Barclays Bank) CEO Jeremy Awori takes a selfie with his staff: Employees from the bank have anonymously reached out to this site’s Chief Editor over a Coronavirus scare at the institution

Panic has gripped Absa Group Limited (formerly Barclays Bank) following news reports that an unconfirmed number of their staff in Mombasa and Nairobi have tested positive for the deadly COVID-19 virus.

According to reliable sources from within the African-based financial institution, even more worrying to the employees is the fact that little to no measures have been taken by the management to curb the spread of the illness within the organization.

Two worried staffers from Nairobi and Mombasa who spoke to cnyakundi.com in anonymity claim that internal memos issued to employees have directed them to ignore the reports and continue normal operations.

“Hi Cyprian, Barclays Bank staff in Mombasa and Embakasi are in panic after their colleagues tested positive for COVID. Many of them acknowledge that no serious measures have been applied to stop the further spread of the virus. They are being told to continue working. Please act on this and help save lives”, another wrote in another in a privately sent mail.

The number of COVID-19 cases in Kenya surpassed the 7,000 mark with the confirmation of 247 more positive test results on Friday.

During the daily briefing at Afya House in Nairobi, Health Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) Rashid Aman announced that these new cases raised the country’s total to 7,188.

The country reported its first case of the coronavirus on March 13, weeks after confirmation of the outbreak in Wuhan, China, on December 31, 2019.

As of the publishing of this post, Absa Group Kenya were yet respond to our numerous attempts to get a comment or official communication from their hierarchy regarding the COVID-19 scare.
