Former Kiambu Governor and ardent DP Ruto critic William Kabogo has pulled a surprise move by seemingly jumping to the defense of the “Tanga Tanga” Squad Captain amid claims he intends to field sacked Agriculture CS Mwangi Kiunjuri as his running mate in 2022.
The issue of Kiunjuri’s prominence in Ruto’s team emerged following his ouster from Cabinet on Tuesday, with the decision by President Uhuru Kenyatta being interpreted as a revenge move against Ruto’s Tangatanga faction, for incessant mockery against his surprise friendship with his former rival ODM leader Raila Odinga.
Analysts view Kiunjuri as one of Ruto’s top trusted allies, with a significant level of influence in Central Kenya, where the DP sees as a key region in his hopes for Presidency.
According to Kabogo, however, the deputy head of state would not pick Kiunjuri, who he says continually demonstrated questionable judgement during his tenure at the Agriculture Ministry.
The ousted CS faced heavy social media criticism over his ignorant response to the recent issue of desert locusts invading the country.
Kiunjuri had asked Kenyans to share images of the insects online for verification, a remark that citizens, worried about their food security, did not take kindly.
According to Kabogo, Kiunjuri has clearly “demonstrated great lack of intelligence.”
“Dr. WSR (William Samoei Ruto) is not that Dumb,” he wrote in a Twitter rant.
This was in reaction to a Daily Nation headline titled “Did Uhuru Sack Ruto’s Running Mate?” that caught netizen’s attention for the better part of Wednesday.
Dr. WSR is not that Dumb. When a guy has demonstrated having great lack of intelligence. 🤷♀️ How! My take. (See the tweets trending yesterday.) pic.twitter.com/3M41pCsDWr
