The National Integrated Identity Management System (NIIMS) also known as Huduma Namba was launched in February intended to re-register all Kenyans, foreigners and refugees residing in Kenya, in a single portal.
Immediately, some sections of Kenyans protested that it is a waste of funds and that the system is risky.
Today, we received a complaint from one of the agents working in Kisii County about the payment they were supposed to receive. They accuse officials of slashing their payment by forcing them to buy ‘things they don’t need’.
Below is the information we received.
Hello Mr. Cyprian Is Nyakundi,
Omogambi igo inganetie gaki ontegerere.
I happen to be one of the few people that were selected to conduct the NIIMS exercise that Matiangi ordered to kick off.
I come from Kisii county [hiiden] to be specific, the officials that are in charge of this exercise for the five day training period have resorted to milking us the little allowances that we are meant to receive.
The allowances are as follows each day for the five day duration:
- Sitting allowance Kshs. 800,
- Fare and airtime Kshs. 500,
- Lunch Kshs. 500 and,
- Drinking water Kshs. 100.
Contrary to our wishes and expectations these officials had contracted a local catering group [Amazing Grace Catering Group] preparing us meals (that is: breakfast and lunch). They never consulted anyone of us and they deduct all the money for lunch allowances.
We have tried to refuse but they threaten to replace us with different people.
A cup of tea and two mandazis and cabbage with two pieces of meat won’t cost Kshs. 500 in Kisii land.
Please be our voice and hide my identity.
