NHIF And Kenya Red Cross Ambulance Scandal – Part 10 of 20

Hannah Muriithi (Left) and Abbas Gullet (retiring at the end of 2019)

The board chair of the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) Ms. Hannah Muriithi has failed to stop pilfering at the medical insurance body.

She is infact the representation of the new cartel that is looting the institution more than ever before. She appointed Nicodemus Odongo as an acting Chief Executive (CEO) so as to have a leeway into the coffers of the govt agency that collects between Ksh2.8 – 3.2 billion per month.

Hannah Muriithi is the defacto CEO, making decisions and receiving bribes from hospitals in order to release their capitation fees yet when she is called to answer to confirm or deny corruption allegations at NHIF she is quick to say ‘call the CEO Mr. Odongo.

She has remained put at NHIF despite the mounting cases of abuse of office and flouting of Mwongozo Act which has guidelines on how the board should behave, because she is a sister in law to Interior Ministry PS Karanja Kibicho. She is married to Karanja Kibicho’s brother Muriithi.

Ladies and gentlemen, part 10 of our ongoing series on corruption at NHIF here below:

Hi CyprianI really don’t know if National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) is actually serious or they are just taking Kenyans for a ride. It is evidently clear now that Kenya Red Cross Society (KRCS) lost its pride; it is no longer a source of hope as it used to be thanks to chief looter who overstayed in power Secretary General Abbass Gullet.

That’s what happens when you allow money to take precedence. NHIF gave a Ksh490 million deal to KRCS E-plus to provide road evacuation to its members. Meaning Kenyans could just call and get an ambulance anytime they are in need.

Each day I walk past the ambulance in Taita Taveta and according to previous reports this is also a norm in other parts of the country I just see grass growing under the vehicle not because there’s no work but because this is a calculated move to ensure vehicles stay new and are paid for no work done.

Each day millions of kenyans fall sick and are in need of ambulance service and cannot access this vital service courtesy of greedy NHIF and KRCS officials.

This year you asked them to provide a report on the number of Kenyans benefiting from this service VISA fee the amount paid to KRCS and they were unable to do so.

The NHIF ambulance service should be very busy but that’s not the case. NHIF is doing nothing to sensitize kenyans on this service and so is Kenya Red Cross.

It is high time this contract is revoked and given to another company which values service more than money!

Hannah Muriithi has continued in the legacy of her predecessor Geofrey Mwangi, and even stole more.
