Samburu North Member of Parliament Alois Lentoimaga was yesterday evening grilled by DCI officers in Maralal town for more than six hours over incitement to violence and cattle rustling in his constituency.
The county’s criminal investigative officer Seroney Soo said other people whose names he didn’t mention would be summoned for questioning as investigations into the incident continue.
“We shall continue summoning others as well so that we know the genesis of these raids in Samburu North,” he said.
The MP defended himself against the allegations saying that having worked as an administrator for more than thirty years, he understands the rule of law.
“I deny all these allegations. I am an elected leader and a lawmaker of this country and I have served for more than 30 years as an administrator in public service, so I understand the rule of law,” he said.
The legislator said that failure by the government to recover guns that were stolen by cattle rustlers, recover stolen livestock and return them to the affected families have led to increased cattle rustling incidences in the region.
People have died and lost property in cattle raid attacks in recent months in Samburu North.
