Maseno University was closed indefinitely yesterday after students protesting rampant rape cases became ‘too much’ for the administration to bear.
‘Following unrest by students over alleged rape cases reported to have occurred in off —campus students’ residences and failure by the students to engage University Management on structured discussions on the same: Senate sat on 1st December at 7pm and resolved to close the University with immediate effect and until further notice. Students are expected to vacate the University by 7.30 pm today Sunday 1, December 2019′, the brief statement said.
Many took to social media to condemn the insensitivity of the university’s senate. Sending students who are protesting insecurity home during the night.

I grew up in Maseno and keep saying here how insecure Maseno is particularly around Ebulako, Enyaita and Mabungo and when students say the same having been repeatedly mugged, raped and robbed the Senate closes the University at night! #MasenoLivesMatter

#masenolivesmatter what does chasing away comrades at night mean
Maseno administration. It means giving them a room for more rape, more death, and all sorts of insecurity. Is this your happiness see comrades out at night? Come on maseno!!

The Senate Maseno University should be disbanded and the administration sacked for closing a university at night @ProfMagoha @FredMatiangi @NationBreaking @TheStarKenya @KenyaPolice3 @DoD_IG pic.twitter.com/AZMZcbPpOC

Where does this university expect the students to go? The University Senate sits at 7pm and gives students upto 7.30pm to vacate. There’s law here called Fair Administrative Action Act, have these VCs/Senates read it? Public Universities administrators act so high up! @OAmollo pic.twitter.com/1zx38ZD7Wz
