KRA to Auction Overstayed Goods at JKIA

KRA will auction overstayed goods at JKIA if owners do not claim the items within thirty days. Owners have up to 3rd February 2020 to claim and remove goods from the customs warehouse.

The authority plans to sell the unclaimed goods on 4th February 2019.

A gazette notice dated 3rd January 2020 calls the public to view the goods at the customs warehouse on January 30 and 31.

Goods in the looming auction include personal items like clothes and electronics, as well as equipment and spare parts.

Pursuant to the provisions of section 42 of the East African Community Customs Management Act, 2004, notice is given that unless the under-mentioned goods are entered and removed from the Customs Warehouse within thirty (30) days from the date of this notice, they will be sold by public auction on 4 February 2020.

Some companies which might lose their goods in the looming auction include Airbus Helicopters, Toyota East Africa, and Mitsubishi. Other firms like Airtel Limited, Radisson Blu, Microsoft EA, and Muthaiga Golf club also risk losing their uncollected items.

A similar activity will take place at the Kisumu Forodha Warehouse for 1125 unclaimed bags of sugar. However, goods for the auction scheduled for February 4 are subject to KEBS approval.
