In a recent rant aimed at Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i following his message while in Kirinyaga, Deputy president William Ruto has cautioned President Uhuru Kenyatta’s government workers from bragging because they were chosen by citizens and hence are seating in big offices that belong to Kenyans.
Matiang’i spoke as the Guest of Honour during a fundraising ceremony at Gathiruini Secondary school, Kirinyaga county on Friday 29, November, 2019.
During the event, Matiang’i dismissed claims by Deputy President William Ruto and his allies that PS Karanja Kibicho was charged with the plans to embarrass him during the recent launch of the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report at the Bomas of Kenya.
“I take full responsibility for any action by the security team, never touch my PS, don’t blame him for any political problem within and without Government. Kenya has only one President – Uhuru Kenyatta – who we receive instructions from. Any action taken by the security personnel is as a result of a presidential directive…a house can never have two heads,” he said.
He further warned politicians against using BBI to divide Kenyans.
“Kenya is a democratic country and divergent opinions are allowed. But let us have meaningful conversations,” he added.
Ruto has insisted that Matiang’i spoke disdainfully and was not under the president’s instructions in his mission.
“Don’t say that you’ve been sent by the president to go and speak superciliously to citizens. I know Uhuru Kenyatta our president as a sober guy who is polite and has never used condescending words while speaking to citizens..thus your hard hardheadedness is a personal trait, you haven’t been sent by anyone,” said the DP.
