Dennis Itumbi on Tuesday, November 19, served The Daily Nation newspaper as well as Capital Group Ltd with a fresh lawsuit.
Itumbi demanded damages for defamation, malicious falsehood, interest for both and for the defendants (Dailly Nation and Capital FM) to cover the full cost of the suit.
Through Chelanga Chambers Advocates, Itumbi referenced several instances in which he alleged that the publication went directly after his character.
“Trouble for Dennis Itumbi’s ‘selfie-mates’ over cell party. Mr Itumbi and his friends are said to have held a party-like visit at the cells where they stayed until close to midnight. They later circulated selfies of the visit on social media,” was one of the stories published by the Daily Nation on July 6, 2019, that was referenced in the lawsuit.
Itumbi further claimed that the nationwide paper and it’s affiliated publications had painted him as a trouble maker and rabble-rouser.
“I received troubling calls from my friends, family, associates, and colleagues after reading the publication inquiring how I fell out with the Head of State when I was dismissed and I did not inform them,” he narrated in his sworn affidavit.
The vocal strategist stated that he had suffered a loss of reputation as a direct result of articles he termed as malicious.
He also intimated that the aforementioned articles had caused him to suffer considerable distress and embarrassment to himself, his career, his calling, and his family.
Itumbi filed the petition seeking payment in full for defamation and publication of malicious falsehood.
The digital strategist with close ties to Deputy President Uhuru Kenyatta also sued Polycarp Hinga, a blogger linked to President Uhuru Kenyatta over malicious falsehood and defamation.
Through Waithera Kinuthia and Company, Advocates Itumbi says that Hinga was involved in propagating and spreading lies about an alleged message he sent to unnamed people.
