Enraged parents at Bondeni Primary School in Kayole have come out to protest what they term as blatant extortion perpetrated by the school’s administration.
The Headteacher at the learning institution has been accused of running a get-rich-quick scheme by demanding exorbitant fees under the guise of improving the welfare of their sons and daughters at the school located in Embakasi Central Constituency in Nairobi County.
Recently, he is said to have directed all Class 8 guardians to provide Sh100 every weekend meant for remedial studies that only last from 8 am to 4 pm on Saturdays.
On top of this total rip-off, they are also required to give out an extra Sh1,000 to help the school cover the cost of breakfast and lunch for the learners when they sit for their Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examinations.
They are also expected to pay Sh500 for mock exams.
“Good evening Sir, hope and trust that you’re well.
I’m writing this to you on behalf of parents at Bondeni primary school at Kayole.
The headteacher is exploiting us and extorting money from us.
Every weekend each class 8 student is required to go with Ksh.100 as tuition only lasts from 8 am to 4 pm.
To make matters worse we are also being asked to pay Ksh.1000 for KCPE exam that they claim will cater for breakfast and lunch for our kids.
We are also forced to pay Ksh.500 for mock exams,” the message reads in part.
After proper scrutiny of his oppressive demands, the parents say that the figures do not make sense.
To make matters worse, the headteacher is known to deliver harsh punishment to noncompliers.
Last year, he is reported to have withheld KCPE result slips of all students who failed to remit the funds as directed.
“I fail to understand why when kids leave home already taken breakfast and exams are over by lunchtime on time for them to come home for lunch.
If any parents fail to pay like in the previous year the headteacher hold onto the KCPE results slips until the parents pay up.
Kindly address this issue until it reaches the highest office,” the parent finishes off.
We vehemently condemn this dangerously high-level extortion and urge relevant legal authorities to move in and ensure the headteacher at Bondeni Primary School faces the full force of the law for breaching Education laws.
Special attention will be granted to this incident and we shall keep publishing subsequent updates as they trickle in.
