Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) CEO Ezekiel Mutua is certainly facing one the longest days of his life.
Hours after he quashed reports of his sacking by ICT CS Joe Mucheru, fresh developments regarding his controversial tenure at the board have emerged.
According latest reports circulating on social media, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has launched a probe into alleged irregular payments of salaries and allowances to Mutua’s bank accounts.
This was brought to light after a letter purportedly drafted by the anti-graft agency surfaced on social media on the afternoon of Friday, August 6 2021.
In the document shared by Kenyan Journalist and news anchor James Obuya Smart, EACC requested the KFCB leadership to provide documents and information to help with their investigations on the matter.
“The commissioner is investigating allegations of irregular payments of salaries and allowances to the institution’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr. Ezekiel Mutua and Board Member Ms. Gathoni Kungu,” reads the letter in part.
As a result, the letter says, Ezekiel Mutua and Gathoni Kungu are further instructed to provide certified copies of; Their personal files, Payslips and payment vouchers, The KFCB Human Resource Policy and Procedures Manual, among other relevant documents.

On Thursday night, Ezekiel Mutua issued a statement claiming he was not aware of his sacking.
In a tweet, Mutua asked Kenyans to ignore claims doing rounds on social media that he had been removed from KFCB.
He described the reports as malicious, stating that as far as he is concerned he is still the man at the helm of KFCB.
Mutua’s statement was in response to Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Jnr who took to Twitter to announce that his village mate had been fired.
