Nyakio Plant Operator and Driving School (NPODS) is located in Thika, this institution offers training in plant and construction machines such as shovel, motor graders, bulldozers, cranes, wide load trucks, backhoes as well as excavators.
Now, in a school setting, women and men (girls and boys) need to have separate boarding places. This is not the case at NPODS.
The school motto is ‘Tackling Youth And Women Empowerment Differently’. Well, this is not okay.
Below is the story:
My wife is taking some seven weeks training on machine operation in Thika at Nyakio Plant Operator and Driving School.
On admission they were assured that there are separate accommodation for both gents and ladies. In fact, they were told that the gents boarding house is in Makongeni.
However, that was a lie, as both men and women are put in the same building. At night when I call my wife, I can often hear men in the background chatting.
This angers me and am not happy that my wife stays in such an environment. Last night I called and I could hear boys chatting in the background, even knocking on doors in the adjacent rooms.
I ended up disagreeing with her why they can’t complain to the authority.
She paid Kshs. 105,000 for the training.
This is a lot of money and since they started training, this is the sixth week they have never been served good food (Read ‘meat’) and they only have a week to the end of the training.
This is not fair. I stand by my story.
