Many Kenyans continued to exhibit support for popular rapper Kennedy Ombima alias King Kaka for his song  ‘Wajinga Nyinyi’ released on December 14, which ruffled feathers in the world of politics.

After Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru threatened to sue the musician on December 16, Kenyans advised him not to pull down the song as demanded.

Activist and Ukweli Party leader Boniface Mwangi mobilised citizens to stand in solidarity with the rapper.

“Governor Anne Waiguru has threatened to sue Kinga Kaka because of WajingaNyinyi poetry piece. It’s important we support Kaka Sungura for speaking truth to power. Let’s all tweet #IstandWithKingKaka and tag Waiguru so she knows we shall not let her intimidate King Kaka,” wrote Mwangi.

Simon Wachiuri wrote “In the case of one King Kaka versus one Anne Mumbi Waiguru Waiganjo, it is clear that King Kaka will win. If he fails to delete the content and wait for an arrest warrant, Kenyans will all back up King Kaka. Then BBI will have to wait until King Kaka is Proven innocent.”

Mike Muiruri wrote;

“No better a time like this to stand with the one King Kaka. He said the truth the language might be coarse but even the devil is used to fulfill the purpose of God,”

Collins the Prince wrote;

“We must stand with king kaka let us contribute money and hire a lawyer for him incase the case will be taken to court. Let show him love because what he sang was the bitter truth,”

Nairobi based photographer wrote;

“King Kaka has set a one of a lifetime political milestone, I think I’m ready to apply for voting card for once since I became of legal age,”

Ndege James wrote;

“I will die for the truth. King kaka just said what all us of know. Even if you sue him, the truth will remain [to] haunt you forever. Just repent,”

In a letter dated December 15, Waiguru’s lawyer, Paul Kiragu Wathuta, claimed that the county head faulted the artist for deliberately omitting to verify the authenticity and accuracy of the contents of his song.

“You have uttered various allegations and innuendos concerning our client which are wholly false and deceptive and without any bias whatsoever and which have amounted to gross and blatant misrepresentation of facts and deliberate mischaracterization of our client’s conduct.

“As a direct consequence of the allegations contained in the song, our client has suffered and continues to suffer damage to her reputation which is incalculable and largely irredeemable,” read the letter in part.

In February 2016, the Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission of Kenya EACC cleared Governor Waiguru, indicating that due process had been followed to absolve her of any involvement in the loss of Ksh791 million in the NYS scandal.

“I am extremely excited and grateful to God. The truth has finally come out against all the accusations that have been there since this matter came out,” she spoke. The governor added that her family had gone through a lot of pain which she wouldn’t wish on anyone.

“I am out of town but I can tell you it is a relief for me and my family. It is a good thing to happen,” remarked Waiguru as quoted by The Standard then.

Waiguru resigned in her docket as Devolution Cabinet Secretary on November 22, following pressure from various stakeholders led by opposition leader Raila Odinga over the NYS saga.

She, however, cited health issues as the reason behind her decision to step down and requested President Uhuru Kenyatta to accord her lighter duties in the future.
