Broke Jubilee Insurance dropped by The Nairobi Hospital

Allan Pamba, CEO, Nairobi Hospital

Jubilee Insurance has been removed from the list of companies that medical insurance to patients seeking those services at the Nairobi Hospital.

In a letter to Jubilee Insurance Group CEO Julius Kipng’etich, the Nairobi Hospital says the listed firm is yet to pay Ksh. 357million accumulated since 2018.

“In the light of this, the Hospital wishes to inform you that your account will be suspended effective Thursday June 18, 2020 at 9.00am,” part of the letter reads.

Jubilee on its part, says that the dispute has been brought about by the ‘failure of the hospital to provide justification for some bills adding up to about Sh 80million’.

The insurance firm that is touted as one of the biggest in East Africa has to inform its customers. Jubilee sent its client’s the following message:

Dear Esteemed Customer, we wish to notify you that we are currently experiencing service disruption at The Nairobi Hospital. We are working to resolve the matter as soon as possible. The Nairobi Hospital’s management says the bills originate from the 2018 and 2019 packages including Sh. 33million and Ksh. 47.8million respectively.

The hospital notified its staff who turned away clients using the medical cover from Jubilee Insurance.

“I wish to inform you that we have suspended the Jubilee Insurance account at the Hospital. Hospitals are currently operating on constrained revenues and on-time payment by Insurances for services rendered is critical.  We hope that the account will be regularised promptly so that the suspension can be lifted’, CEO Allan Pamba wrote.

In May, Jubilee Insurance announced a 2.6 percent drop in net profit to Ksh. 4billion for its 2019 financial year report. The profit it added dropped on higher claim settlements and a lower return from its associates.

While its premiums were up 9% percent to Ksh. 29.1billion, it witnessed an increase in claims from Ksh. 15.9billion to Ksh. 19.7billion. Incomes from associated businesses declined in the period under review from Ksh. 1.3billion to Ksh. 988million.
