The debacle at Toyota Kenya continues to unravel.

Over the past few days, more past and present staffers have boldy come out to speak against injustices being perpetrated by the company’s top officials.

In this shocking anonymous submission shared below, an insider at the troubled vehicle distributer has further divulged into, among other things; how members of the senior management led by MD Arvinder Singh Reel and COO Joshua Anya have turned into self-idolized demigods notorious for bulldozing employees as they wish.

To paint a clearer picture of the deeply entrenched toxic culture, our source gives a recent account of how one staff member from the Coast region was unceremoniously kicked out of Toyota Kenya over trumped up charges that the management could not substantiate.

This was despite him earnestly working at the firm while under massive pressure from both the MD and COO.

Things were so heated that he would sometimes take anti-depresants to help him calm down.

Tribalism and nepotism is also rife at the Toyota Kenya but both the MD and COO seem to be immune despite the long-running corruption deals.

For instance, Mr Arvinder is rumoured to have illegally enlisted members of his extended family to the company’s payroll.

This has not gone down with the rest of the workforce which fails to understand why the Singhs enjoy a much higher salary despite hardly reaching university level.

On the other hand, Mr Anya is felt to have a vendetta against certain communities like the Kikuyu whom he has declared his number one enemies at Toyota Kenya.

Ever since he took charge, all Kikuyus working in the Spare Parts department were sacked from the warehouse on what colleagues term as made-up charges.

The senior managment led by Arvindeer and Joshua Anya behave like demi-gods and bulldoze adults like it’s a school kindergarten.

There is one particular Coasterian guy who had been transferred to assist Joshua Anya.

Poor guy was so stressed out and depressed throughout and had to take blood pressure pills each day in the morning when he checked in at 6:30 am, and antidepressants at lunchtime.

Despite his good work and being a good resource person liaising between head office and the dealerships, 6 across the country he was fired last year.

Every corner at Toyota Kenya there is a poster denouncing fraud and a whistleblowing number.

However, this is only used to intimidate lower cadre staff. while the big kahuna swims in sleazy corruption.

This has been whistle blown to the contacts provided in the posters but it seems that Arvindeer and Joshua Anya are immune despite there corrupt dealings being in the open.

All the Sighs employed in the company by Arvindeer enjoy salaries of over Sh300k despite none of them haveing made it to university.

And given nondescript roles and that do not carry any significant responsibility but lots of pay at the expense of other employees.

Joshua Anya is on record to have said that he will rod the company of Kikuyus.

He says they are thieves and true to his word each and every Kikuyu speaking person at the Toyota Kenya Parts department which includes a warehouse there isn’t even one Kikuyu speaking person.

They were all fired 1 by 1 for nonexistent and made-up charges.

The employee attrition rate at Toyota Kenya is so high.

In the year 2020, the company lost through firing or resignation approx 60 employees.

For a company with approx 500 employees across its network that is quite a high turnover of employees.

2021 was equally high and this year 2022 is following the same trend.

Adrian the HR “yes man” is an idiot and has no clue on how to retain employees.

He has disrupted the livelihood of up to 120 people in the short time he has been in Kenya.

Surely are there no HR practitioners in Kenya that we have to import a diploma guy from South Africa who served in the apartheid era and has no empathy at all.

For a company that was the market leader just a few years back and now with no. 3 or 4 market share in the industry (could be worse were it not for the Police leasing 700 Landcruiser pickups) points clearly towards poor leadership and a demotivated workforce.

It will keep getting worse for the CFAO shareholders if they keep on having this style of management in the company.

We encourage more employees at the company to fearlessly come out and unearth deeper details of what is happening at their workplace.

This will help trigger action from relevant authorities who are rumoured to be already pocketed by the suspects.

Their mouths are too full to speak, but ours are not.
